The Maxi Cosi Rock is an iSize (R129) approved infant car seat. As with all infant seats, the Rock can only be installed rear facing as it is safest. The Rock can be installed with the vehicle’s 3-point seatbelt, or alternatively with the Maxi Cosi FamilyFix3 isofix base. The Rock is one of the infant seats that can form part of the 3-way concept where the FamilyFix3 isofix base can be used with the Jade Carrycot as well as the Pearl Pro/Pearl Smart toddler seats.

PROS AND CONS OF THE Maxi cosi rock:

PROS

  • Scores well for safety with and without the isofix base.
  • Good infant head and body support.
  • Good recline for newborns to prevent head flopping forward when asleep.
  • The Rock is TUV approved for use of aircrafts.
  • 10-year lifespan.

CONS

  • The harness is not height adjustable and as such will be outgrown sooner

WHAT ARE THE WEIGHT AND HEIGHT LIMITS OF THE rock?

The Rock is a Group 0+ approved infant car seat, approved from birth/45cm  to 12kg/75cm.

This makes it a suitable option for premature and newborn babies, and usually lasts until approximately 12 months. When used with the FamilyFix3 isofix base, it is iSize approved.

WHAT ARE THE SAFETY FEATURES OF THE rock

The Maxi Cosi Rock contains air pockets on either side of the headrest for ultimate impact protecting during side collisions. The Rock has been manufactured with SPS which is Side Protection System. The SPS is there to absorb the force during a collision and protect your baby from harm.

The Rock has been designed with material that has been improved for impact absorption. These materials absorb even more of the impact which ensures your baby is given the best protection possible.

When installed with the vehicle’s 3-point seatbelt, The Rock scored 1.6 for safety by ADAC with a very low risk of injury in both side and frontal collisions. This score is slightly higher than the score that the Rock received for the crash test including the isofix base.

The Rock is compatible with the FamilyFix One, FamilyFix2 and FamilyFix3 bases. When installed with the FamilyFix One isofix base, The Rock scored 1.7 for safety by ADAC with a very low risk of injury in a frontal collision and a low risk of injury in a side collision. The mechanisms of the bases are the same, and Maxi Cosi SA have confirmed that the safety ratings of the FamilyFix One would apply when used with the FamilyFix2 or FamilyFix3 bases as well.

WHAT ARE THE COMFORT FEATURES OF THE rock?

The Rock has an extra-padded, removable infant insert that cocoons your baby. This insert gives the baby the best support while providing the baby with a comfortable recline that assists in preventing the baby’s head falling forward while they are sleeping (which is dangerous for newborns). The infant insert contains firm but comfy support on the sides of the baby’s torso which ensures the baby’s internal organs are as protected as possible in the event of a collision. The head support is sufficient for comfort and protection.

The downside of the Rock is that the height of the harness cannot be adjusted as your baby grows and therefore, your baby is more likely to outgrow the Rock earlier than other infant seats. However, the harness is easy to tighten and to loosen when getting your baby in and out of the car seat.

HOW IS THE Rock INSTALLED?

The Rock can be installed without the isofix base, using the vehicle’s 3-point seatbelt which is the minimally safer option when comparing crash test ratings. Although the seatbelt installation scored a slightly higher safety rating, it must be done correctly to be effective. Seat belt installations create more room for errors.

Alternatively, the rock can be installed with the FamilyFix3 isofix base. The FamilyFix3 isofix base has audiovisual indicators which will alert you if the base or car seat is not installed correctly. This makes it more foolproof and is much more convenient. The Rock can simply be clicked in and out of the isofix base.

HOW TO RemovE and wash the covers?

The covers of the Rock can be removed effortlessly and then washed on a delicate cycle in the washing machine. Take note that the harness straps should never be submerged in water due to the fire retardant on the straps. If the harness needs to be cleaned, wipe them down with a damp cloth..

WHAT IS THE LIFESPAN OF THE rock?

Maxi Cosi seats are made to last up to 10 years. This is only on condition that the seat has not been in an accident, dropped or damaged. Car seats should always be replaced after an accident.

WHAT IS THE warranty on THE ROCK?

Maxi Cosi products have a 24 month warranty which covers all manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship when used in normal conditions and in accordance with their user manual for a period of 24 months from the date of the original retail purchase by the first end-user customer. To request repairs or spare parts under warranty, you must present your proof of purchase to the local distributor. They offer excellent customer service and usually have spare parts available to carry out repairs.

Maxi Cosi Free swap service

If your child car seat has been in an accident, its safety may be compromised even if there is no visible damage.  Maxi Cosi will replace the crashed seat with a brand new one. They then send the crashed seat back to the manufacturer to get valuable information about how their car seats perform in collisions. Terms and conditions apply.

is the rock compatible with my car?

The Rock is compatible with any car that is equipped with full 3-point seat belts. The Rock cannot be installed with a lap belt and should never be installed in front of an active airbag. For installation with the FamilyFIx3 isofix base, your vehicle must have isofix anchors and no underfloor storage compartments. Click here to check if your car is on the approved fit list:

What is the difference between Pebble Pro vs Pebble Plus vs Rock?

The Pebble Pro is the updated version of the Pebble Plus. They have the same shell and the only real difference is that the Pebble Pro’s head support of the infant inlay has been improved to be more supportive.

The Rock, like the Pebble Plus and Pebble Pro, also has the air pocket at the head area and the infant inlay. The Rock is slightly cheaper as it does not have the easy-in harness but has a regular harness that requires you to stick your finger into the tab to release the harness. The Rock’s headrest and harness are also not height adjustable, so is likely to be outgrown by height quicker than the Pebble Pro.

When to remove newborn insert

The infant insert should not be used once your baby is over 60cm in height and should be removed. The head support cushion is attached to the infant insert and will be removed as well..

WHICH PRAMS/STROLLERS IS THE ROCK COMPATIBLE WITH?

The Rock can be used to create a travel system with many of the Maxi Cosi strollers, as well as with other brands such as Thule, Quinny, Mimi, Alfa Kids, TFK, Stokke, Uppababy, etc with the appropriate adapters
